Freestyle Survivor, a day packed full of outdoor activities and survival skills in local countryside, was a massive success. Liquid Connection partner with Leatherhead Youth Project to deliver this project twice a year.
Have a look at the video below for an idea of what the day held in store for local adventurers..

Dan Burns reports on how the day unfolded..

The day started at a very early 9.30am with a briefing that went through the day's events. The victims were then told to make a salad, completely unaware what lurks inside the honest looking lettuce!!

The morning consisted of workshops, with the group being given a choice of 3. The most popular involvied working with a ranger at the park who showed the participants how to safely chop down and burn trees. Mountain biking was also a great hit and provided and exhilarating experience by reaching fast speeds down steep hills. The final workshop was for the more laid back, chilled and arty guys & girls, with pumpkin carving and toffee apple making which brought a great selection of designs.

After everyone was tired from the workshops, a mass pig-out ensued. Everyone was given time to chill and eat, gaining energy for the mammoth tasks that lay ahead.

With lunch time over, it was time to get the war paint on. The gang was split into 3 teams and given coloured ribbons and face paints to get into the survival mind set, after which they were taken deeper into the forest to test their teamwork and survival skills.

Groups had to build their own shelters, shielding them from wind, rain and the cold by using only a tarpaulin, piece of string and the findings around them. They were then sent off in their own groups around the forest to various points to encounter an array of tasks that relate to survival techniques and team work, accumulating points for their teams to become FREESTYLE SURVIVOR CHAMPIONS!! .
Tasks include: Fluffy animal hunting (no animals were harmed in the making of this activity), Deadly swamp crossing, Entrapment escape, Logical problem solving & Nature arts and crafts.

As the activities came to an end, the banquet arrived. Burgers and sausages headlined the evening and were quickly finished off by the starving squad.
As the hour of judgment arrived there were some final minute points to be won. A member from each group was to endure one more challenge, crickets to be exact. To win vital points for their team, they had to eat a specially prepared cricket!

After the announcements were made, it was time to depart from the formally peaceful Norbury Park..
