Liquid Connection Half-Term Report
Posted by on 6th June 2011
The recent Half-term week provided the Liquid team with a great opportunity to arrange fun and unique activities for local young people. London Zoo, a National Football Conference and a local Neighbours day all featured. Read on for more details..
BLISS - The Bliss project, which supports local teenage girls, took a group of 12 to London Zoo for a day trip on Tuesday 31st May. The weather held out and the group had a great time, with highlights including watching Lions and Penguins being fed. Trips to London are rare for a number of the young people we work with and we feel its important to provide 'big' trips like this from time to time.
Youth Alpha - The Youth Alpha group, which is a small group of young men (age 16+) exploring the Christian faith, went for a hike up and around Box Hill. Despite getting rained on and being confused by what we were served for lunch at the local cafe (!), it was a good chance to get out and enjoy the local area.
North Leatherhead Neighbours Day - Liquid Connection was involved with North Leatherhead Neighbours Day on Thursday 2nd June. The event, which is run by a number of partners including Mole Valley Housing Association, Leatherhead Youth Project and Mole Valley District Council, provides sports, games, activities and a Free BBQ on Kingston Road Recreation Ground.
The day aims to build bridges in the community between local services and residents.
The day was a huge success, with hundreds of people coming out to enjoy the live music and various stalls and games, including a bouncy castle, raffle, football, and visits from local Police and Fire crews.

Grassroots Football Conference 2011
Alex and Joe took a group of 10 boys, aged 14-17, to the National Grassroots Football Conference at the NEC Arena in Birmingham on Friday 3rd June.

The conference hosted live football sessions being run by current and former Premier League and Football League managers, including Ian Dowie, Graham Taylor, and Peter Taylor. Our group had the opportunity to watch and participate in a range of football sessions, with 5 different arenas hosting various types of technical and tactical coaching sessions.
This was a fantastic event which offered everything a football fan could possibly want. There were stalls featuring football products and trips, seminar sessions looking at issues such as sports psychology and football role models, and lots of freebies being given out.
Our group were lucky enough to get pictures with Robbie Savage, Dion Dublin and football legend Peter Shilton. The day finished with a Futsal Exhibition match which showcased 5-a-side football using special type of ball.
Besides a less than comfortable trip back on the M25 home, the group hugely enjoyed the day and are making plans to be there next year.
