The aim of the club is to get or keep young players in football in between the ages of 15-17, as this is the peak time of drop out for young players in the game. The club provides accessible football at this key age group and also supports young players looking to transition into senior football.

This season the club attracted a squad of old and new players, some old heads stayed on from the previous age group where they had played up a year and a new contingent of players...

Freestyle 2012 - 1 week to go!

http://www.liquidconnection.co.uk/blog/freestyle-2012---1-week-to-go%21.html

It's a busy time at Liquid HQ as we prepare for another Freestyle camp.

Next week we will have 43 young people from Leatherhead away on a camp full of fun, games, activities and workshops. This is our 7th consecutive year of running the camp, which has become a real highlight for many local young people. You can read more about Freestyle here.

This year Freestyle is Olympic themed, encouraging our young people to work in teams to gain 'medals' and become the Freestyle champions! Of course taking part is what counts, and the activites this year include wading through paddling ...

Total Football thrives

http://www.liquidconnection.co.uk/blog/total-football-thrives.html

This week see's the exciting finish of another block of Total Football.

Monday 11th July saw the final Miss BLISS of the 2010/11 school year. The project, which we run in partnership with Leatherhead Youth Project, provides a monthly activity evening for girls in school years 7, 8 & 9.

Each month focuses on a different theme, which have included self esteem, relationships, and bullying. The project allows girls to engage with these themes through crafts, games, discussions and trips, while getting to know local youth workers who can provide extra support.

We look forward to the new September term to continue this work, until then thanks for...

Year 6 Transition Scheme

http://www.liquidconnection.co.uk/blog/year-6-transition-scheme.html

Liquid Connection has recently completed another Transition scheme for local year 6 students at Leatherhead Trinity School. Transitioning from primary school to secondary school can be scary and difficult for young people, particularly those who struggle within the school context, but we believe the change in school environment also offers students an opportunity for a fresh start.

During the planning stages of our Transition scheme, we work with the primary school to gain referrals for young people who may be vulnerable during the school transition. This may be due to low self-esteem, po...

Relational Youth Work in Schools - Why is it important? I work within Therfield Secondary School for Liquid Connection 1 day per week. The aim of my role is to provide help and support to students who are struggling with difficult circumstances.

Referrals are made to me from School Heads of House and Senior Management, and can include issues such as bullying, self esteem, home-life and bereavement.

I am able to structure my caseload and way of working around the needs of the school and the students, and typically will have betwee...

Relational Youth Work in Schools - Why is it important? The report, entitled The Class of 2011 - How happy are young people and why does it matter? reveals the striking number of issues the average school class will have experienced by the time they reach year 11, and argues that support and help during these years is vital in helping young people make good choices and for their emotional well being.

BLISS - The Bliss project, which supports local teenage girls, took a group of 12 to London Zoo for a day trip on Tuesday 31st May. The weather held out and the group had a great time, with highlights including watching Lions and Penguins being fed. Trips to London are rare for a number of the young people we work with and we feel its importa...

Freestyle 2011 - Report and Videos

http://www.liquidconnection.co.uk/blog/freestyle-2011---report-and-videos.html

Freestyle - Tuesday 12th - Friday 15th April 2011

Freestyle was back in 2011 for it's 6th consecutive year. This year's Freestyle, which took place during the first week of the Easter Holidays, took 39 young people away for 4 days of fun at Reeds School in Cobham.
We would like to say a huge thank you to our project partner Leatherhead Youth Project for helping us run Freestyle, and to the project sponsors Mole Valey Housing Association and Surrey County Council for allowing us to provide the camp at such a low cost to our participants.
Our unique schedule provides a mix of games, ac...
