In February 2010, Liquid Connection staff took 3 young people from North Leatherhead on the trip of a lifetime to South Africa. Travelling with Dave Erasmus, an entrepreneur based in Leatherhead with voluntary youth work experience, we visited charities and non-profit groups in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and East London.
Across our 10 days in the country, we spent time with local people who shared with us the racial, social and economical challenges they have faced over the last 20 years. We were made to feel so welcome and will always remember the spirit and hope we found, despite the harsh conditions facing many.
Romania
Liquid Connection has previously partnered with registered charity Heart For Romania (headed up by Tim Poole MBE) to take 3 local young people on a life changing trip to Romania in August 2009. Teaming up with Regenerate UK, 6 young people and 3 youth workers headed out to a gypsy community in Translyvania to support a community building project. This part of Romania is struck by desperate poverty, and the way of life in this place deeply impacted the group as they connected with local people.
Liquid Connection believe in the power of international trips as a tool for seeing lives changed and will be developing this relationship with Romania more in the near future.
