Providing quality one-to-one support for young people across Mole Valley
Mole Valley Mentoring Scheme is a new initiative which will provide extra support and guidance for young people within the borough of Mole Valley.
What is mentoring?
Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship which focuses on trust, support and guidance. Mentoring gives you the opportunity to provide a young person with a stable, supportive role model who can provide advice and positivity.
Mentoring is often goal based; a mentor can play a key part in helping a young person to set and achieve personal goals and targets.
Who can mentor?
A mentor will have good personal skills and an understanding of issues which affect young people. Please have a look at our role description below for more information. Volunteer mentors with our scheme are trained and supported by Liquid Connection, and matched with young people who have been referred to the project by Mole Valley Police.
Who is being mentored?
Young people, or mentees, will usually be individuals who are in need of extra support, perhaps those who are vulnerable or struggling with a particular issue.
How does mentoring work?
Once a mentee and mentor have been matched, the one to one mentoring sessions take place on a weekly basis for one year. Each mentor is well trained and will provide guidance and support to help their mentee get back on track and achieve positive goals.
Mentors are given an activity budget for each session, which means mentoring can take place at a local cafe, over a game of tennis, or at the bowling alley.
How can I apply to become a mentor?
Prospective mentors should contact us to express their interest. We will then send you a role description and further information about Mole Valley Mentoring Scheme. Each applicant then submits an application form, which is followed by an informal interview and reference approvals. Suitable applicants will then be invited for a 2 day training course, and at this stage a CRB check will be processed before any contact with a young person begins.
